Welcome to Cloyne Parish

The town of Cloyne was founded around the year 580 A.D. and owes it origins to St. Colman. Colman had been a bard (i.e. historian and poet) and had been attached to the court of the King of Cashel. He was converted to Christianity in his late forties and given the Cloyne area by the King as a land-grant on which to build his monastery. Following the building of the monastery a monastic school was established and the town grew quickly. St. Colman died in Cloyne in 604 A.D. He is the Patron Saint of the Diocese of Cloyne and his feastday falls on the 24th November.

Pope’s Intention for May.

For the formation of men and women religious and for seminarians. The Pope emphasises the ongoing development of their vocations through grace, prayer, community, and witness to the Gospel.

• “Do not be afraid,” – God, I hand over to You those things that make me so afraid. Resurrect the parts of my faith squelched by fear.

• “I know that you are looking for Jesus,” – God, when my soul is searching, help me know the answer to every longing can be found in You.

• Help us to quiet our minds to hear your voice, your Spirit as you speak to our spirits.

• We remember the promises of Easter which we celebrated just last week but somehow that seems so long ago.

• We confess, God, that we tend to leave the truths of Easter behind too quickly.

Spiritual Communion

My Jesus, I believe that you are present in this Holy Sacrament of the altar. I love you above all things and I passionately desire to receive you into my soul. Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, come spiritually into my soul so that I may unite myself wholly to you now and forever. Amen.
